Windows 8 support ended on 10 January 2023. You need to make sure you have replaced your PC or laptop with a Windows 11 computer to ensure you remain secure. We can supply and install a new Windows 11 PC and transfer data from your old computer.

I will normally visit your premises before purchasing a new computer to check what your requirements are and to recommend a specification appropriate for your needs
  • Is it for domestic or business use or both?
  • What specification of computer is appropriate for your needs?
  • Do you need a CD/DVD drive?
  • Do you need a wired or wireless keyboard & mouse?
  • Do any programs need updating?
  • What programs you want transferred to the new computer?
  • How many Gb of files need to be transferred?
  • Is your current security and anti-virus strong enough?
  • How many users you want setup
  • How many email addresses you want setup
  • How your monitor connects to the computer
  • Are you using more than 1 monitor?
  • Is a card reader needed for your camera?
  • How do you connect to the internet – wired or wireless
  • How many USB ports will you need?
  • Will your printer/scanner/webcam work with Windows 10?
  • Do you use any special sound system?
  • Will the computer be used for gaming?
  • How will you back up your files?
  • What is your budget?

Questions & Answers

To find out which version of windows your device is running
  1. On your keyboard press & hold down the Windows logo key.
  2. While you are holding the Windows logo key, press and release the letter R.
  3. Now release the Windows logo key.
  4. A small ‘Run’ window will appear. To the right of ‘Open:’ type: winver and then click OK.
  5. Another window will open that will tell you what version of Windows is installed on your computer.
  6. If the version is Windows 8 or lower you will need to upgrade.
Will Windows 11 work in a different way to Windows 8?
Yes there are differences in the way Windows 11 will work and slight changes to the way it looks & behaves. However, I will put the desktop icons you previously had on your new desktop so to a large extent you are oblivious whether you are running Windows 7,8, 10 or 11. Windows 11 shuts down in a very slightly different way, but I will show you how this is done.
Can you transfer all my programs to the new computer?
There are some programs that won’t transfer to Windows 11 because they are incompatible & will need to be upgraded. Some programs may require you to have the original installation CD and a product key or internet login details – if you don’t have these then it may not be possible to reinstall the program. I will work with you to identify what programs you have on the old computer and if there are likely to be issues with transferring them to the new computer.
What happens about disposing of my old pc and hard disk?
If the old PC is not going to be used I will normally take out the old hard disk and leave it with you as a back up of your files that were transferred and also in case any files were missed in the data transfer because the were in a non-standard location. Once the hard disk has been removed the computer can then be disposed of in a small electrical recycling centre – your local tip!
